USC slashing benefits for NMF

USC has been in a ton of financial turmoil this year, and it seems to be getting worse: https://morningtrojan.com/p/usc-cuts-national-merit-finalist-scholarship.

This is real concerning. You only cut this type of funding when you are running out of the pot. Guess they finally get to see the brunt of that $1bn sexual harassment lawsuit. Why anyone would send their daughter to usc is beyond me.

USC is #18 among all private colleges for endorsement. One of the last schools to worry about.

You really must be out of the loop. The college is in a pretty bad financial decision and has been making deep cuts for over a year. Having a lot of money in the endowment can’t save you from day to day operations and billions in lawsuit damages.

Parent of a NMF from a couple of years ago...USC is not unique. Most comparable schools eliminated scholarships to NMF years ago.

Why do they even need this anyway?
No one else does this.

Massive assumption that you’re making OP. Way to jump the shark
My guess is that USC achieved what it wanted to do with NMF scholarships over the last 20 years - ie become a desirable school for high stats kids. It has done that and it no longer needs to give away such a deep discount. The article actually says that the school is looking to divert funding to more underprivileged applicants. That’s a good thing in my book

The article also mentions a massive budget deficit, but I guess we’re all blind today

Between American Univ, UChicago and now USC, there definitely seems to be some financial problems in some higher education institutions.

Lots of good schools have large budget deficits and are looking to save money. Some ways of saving money may be more visible than others.

What does this even mean? USC is a selective institution. If it’s so easy to get into, have your child apply as a safety.

USC is one of the top schools in the country. Stop with the ignorant posts.
