Good christmas/year end bonus

Anonymous
I get around 3% annual pay as christmas/year end bonus. That is not my annual review. Is it considered good or just okay one. This is my 2nd year in this company but it is my first time receiving bonus.

It completely depends on your compensation structure, company, and industry. There is no way to know what that is - if you have reduced compensation because you're working on some kind of commission, that's not good at all. If your company made a billion in profits, that's not good. If you know your peers made more or less you can try to track it.

Dependant on so many variables. My spouse receives between $30-$80k as bonus at his big corporation, whereas I receive $500-$2,000 at my non profit.

My sister has cleared $2 million in her bonus for several years now. My bonus is zero (I do not get one). Such is life.

It varies so much. In a good year for me, it would be $1000 but my industry does not pay well.

My spouse in the past few years has received anywhere from 65k to 125k. However, at a new company, it is expected to be 200k to 500k.

Obviously it depends on industry. I work in big law where my bonus is directly tied dollar for dollar for the revenue I brought in. Bonus was $800k because I had a busy year.

My husband works in financial services where comp structure is heavy on bonus and stock, but not directly tied to his own performance; it also turns on public company performance. I think his bonus is expected to be like $200k in cash, and similar in stock.

But I know other people who work as doctors and govt, and their bonuses are more akin to "thank you for your work this year". So in the range of thousands of dollars. Their comp structure through the year is already established to pay them their appropriate pay.

Mine is supposed to be $75k. Because our company had a bad year, it will be $35k.

more akin to "thank you for your work this year" IS NOT in the range of thousands of dollars for me, a government worker. Sometimes I get thanked verbally for my work in a year, once my director wrote me a nice note saying that, but never have I gotten an end of year bonus of any cash (though I acknowledge maybe some government employees may have a different experience). And the concept that “comp structure through the year is already established to pay them their appropriate pay” is antithetical to a bonus - a bonus literally means something extra.I’m very proud of my 30 years of public service, pleased that I’ve always had stellar ratings, but am very tired of people who presume we all get bonuses.

My last company had year end bonuses for the run of the mill folk (I was one) that factored in individual performance, years of service and company performance and would end up around from 3% to 10$ of base salary.

Once you were at a certain grade level, bonuses moved to March and were considerable higher from what I gathered.

New company does not give out bonuses.

I got 1/2 day off.

You got a $35k bonus and that’s considered bad? I barely net that amount per year and I’ve certainly never gotten a bonus.

We gave $1000 each to Mom's CNA's. They were making $30 per hour.

You should get nothing, then.

We get nothing. I work in energy consulting and I guess it depends on your field. People in finance can get big bonuses. "You should work for rich people" is what my mom says.
