We have visitors from out of town who would like to go downtown to visit the museums.
I've just seen that Metro is closing several stations in this area for the holidays. What a pain. |
Uber |
Ugh. We have family in town whomplanned to metro to smithsonians and such. |
Yeah with no traffic and multiple people, Uber all the way. |
Can you drive them down and drop them off? |
They are providing free shuttle service. |
Which line would they use? Are there any bus alternatives? |
I’m just relieved there isn’t a shutdown and our visitors can go to the Smithsonian. |
Uber or drive. Metro fares aren’t cheap anyway. |
The WMATA.com website gives you a listing closures by day and shuttle bus alternatives. In only affects the blue, orange and silver lines. |
It's going to be quite an adventure to get from Red line stations like Woodley Park to Dulles - four different trains? I saw there was a bus shuttle but it's not much fun to wait in the cold for a bus and not be sure there will be enough room. |
I only take those lines, like a few hundred thousand people. |
Red to Farragut North K Street exit. Block south to I St (as if going to Farragut West entrance there), pick up the shuttle bus for 6 block ride to Foggy Bottom, get on silver line there. It's not great, but I'd guess will add 15 minutes total. When they do these closures the waits tend to be short because they are running a fleet of busses round the clock, and there will be no traffic to slow the buses down. It's obviously never a good time to do it, but as they say in the info section, it's by far the lowest ridership time of the year. Overall good on metro for doing preventative maintenance. I think most people who use the system consistently will tell you it is doing much better than even just a year ago, and significantly better than the late 2010s disasters. |
help! not a frequent metro taker here. if the metro center station is closed on other colored lines, but not red, can i take the red line to metro center? i can't even imagine how this work. appreciate any clarity here... |
