| Could someone please remind me the timeline for when Crown and Woodward are set to open? Has anyone discussed the plan for staffing? How will MCPS hire hundreds of staff when we can’t fully staff the schools we already have? |
| They are both scheduled to open in August 2027. |
So in MCPS terms that means they'll open August 2035. |
Nah, but Damascus or Wootton might be delayed that long. |
| New school buildings often attract many job applicants. |
| As of the December board meeting, I believe the report said Northwood was about 25% done and right on schedule so far for 2027 completion as planned (Northwood completion is what's needed for Woodward to open.) Not sure about Crown but you could look it up in the same documents, they post them in the BOE meeting materials. |
| Also presumably much of the staffing will come from staff at the overcapacity schools moving to the new schools when the students move and staffing levels drop there. The number of students isn't changing, just the buildings. |
The number of students in some of the overcrowded schools will continue to slowly grow but essentially this is correct, some students will move and also some teachers will move. Also the new schools will not open with all 4 grades, probably just 3. However, they will have to hire new principals, other admins and a few more teachers. |
| MCPS is pretty much fully staffed and they let go of staff last spring. |
Then why do they have 446 positions advertised on MCPS Careers? |
I predict they close Wootton before replacing it. |
