Social media is overselling HRT - not every woman needs it

Anonymous
Here’s a great post by Dr Jen Gunter explaining that no, not every woman needs to take HRT, and that HRT is not a preventative.

It's the latest social contagion. Everyone thinks they need HRT. Just like everyone thinks they need ADHD meds.

Totally agree.

We don’t. However it’s helpful to get some support for many of us. Even if it’s the herbal supplements. And seeing info on social media can open a conversation with your doc about lifestyle tuning that can improve middle and later life. I’m not mad about it.

Hi. Guess you’ve never taken vitamins or had a cup of mint tea either. Maybe look at nutritional supports before being a snarky pants. Ashwaghanda for your sweet disposition.

No they are not. I used herbal supplements and lots of self care and would not touch HRT. My dh likes to joke he had no idea I went through menopause. lol. Bonus. Just with my daily evening walks after work I managed to better my bone density and overalll bone health. My DS full on osteoporosis and she is a walking poster child for HRT. She is the main reason I wouldn’t put that in my body, would never want to feel the way she does on a daily basis.

NP - I’ll be honest. I don’t really want to discuss cups of mint tea with my physician. Seems like a complete waste of both our time. If you think it has a measurable effect, I suggest you look a little closer at the placebo effect.

Who is DS? That means dear son. Your post makes no sense - people push HRT preventatively to avoid osteoporosis.

Sounds like you are fairly rigid in your thinking. Do you. Allopathic medicine is your jam. That’s ok.

No, I know the experience of most MOs and DOs. Also as I said, I know about the placebo effect.

I totally agree. Menopause is not a huge medical event, I am so tired of influencers pushing HRT and telling us something is wrong with us for going through menopause.

Except it’s not always a placebo effect. Ok for you. Not necessarily true overall. It’s an opinion.

Cool. It’s a social media gripe fest. Let’s definitely complain about hearing more about a topic that until recently was not being talked about enough. The reason for this forum is also so we can share our experiences and check in. It’s effectively a form of social media as well.

With as much as women are already silenced about their health could you consider leaving room for folks that do want more info? That are having symptoms and do need medical and or functional medicine support? If you do not that’s wonderful. Let everyone else talk.

It’s only pushing if you let yourself topple to peer pressure. If you aren’t a fan of what you are seeing online you don’t have to consume that media. Ads and influencers are easy to ignore.
