My son, who’s a U.S. citizen, is supposed to fly in from London to JFK on Sunday.
How well do airports work during shutdowns? If he started the flight Friday evening and came in Saturday morning, would that help? |
Most services in the airpots are funded by user fees and local goverments. TSA and air traffic control are either funded by user fees (taxes on your ticket) or are considered essential.
In other words, nothing will happen. |
What? Flights will be fine. |
Thank you; this is helpful. |
Immigration might be slower if people call in sick or the computers glitch. But the plane will be fine. |
TSA and air traffic controllers have to work without pay. It sucks but it it is what it is. |
Things will be slower, but open. |
Nothing. |
They should shut down the airports so they stop treating this like a game and get down to business |
And not unreasonably, many ATC and other essential but unpaid government employees will be taking all their sick leave and vacation time during the shutdown. It is ridiculous that Republicans are demanding people have to work without pay over the holidays. I would expect massive travel disruptions until Congress passes a bill, which realistically, if it doesn't happen by tomorrow, won't get done until at least February. |
Pretty certain that he can't fly from LHR to JFK Friday--->Sat am. That only works the other way around. |
Nothing because air traffic control is essential work and they will be working with no pay. I vote for a full shutdown. Let's show everyone what happens when the whole thing comes to a screeching halt, including air travel. Merry Christmas! |
Nothing will happen. TSA must work without pay and they get backpay when the shutdown is resolved.
If the shutdown happens and you're flying for Christmas, I'd be extra, extra nice to those workers. |
Don’t let facts get in the way of making a political argument. Politicians never do. |
