Hello All,
Today DD's teacher sent out the dates of IOWA/IAAT test . May I know how you are all preparing . DD have a pretty good understanding of Pre- Algebra concepts but my worry is about the time limit for each questions. DD will always take lil more time to finish off the tests . So looking for any tips for the practice . Also May I know is there any specific online resources that you would recommend . |
We did RSM. It was useless. I would mostly let them get used to a clock - like how long does 10 mins feel when you’re doing a set of questions. How do you time yourself in your head? |
We used a solomon academy workbook. Available on amazon. |
Thank you . May I know if you are using any online resources ? |
Most of the kids in my DC class used this one and the majority of them got higher than 95%. I remember the kids said the actual test last year was really easy https://a.co/d/1GdKel2 |
My kid said this book was a waste of time because the actual test was way easier. |
The questions are not as hard but the timing is quite intense. My son just did the online books everyone uses but I heard after that mathnasium does good prep. |
We were simultaneously applying for private school and DD was taking the ISEE, which is a timed test and designed to be above the grade level given. Studying for the ISEE prepared DD to do very well on the IAAT because both are timed. DD learned invaluable skills about how to allocate her time, determine when a question was taking too long, go back over her answers, all that sort of stuff. Before the IAAT they really don't take any tests with such a tight time limit in FCPS. DD didn't really need to prepare for the math concepts at all - school had given her enough for that and any kid who belongs in Algebra 1 H will feel the same. But if she hadn't learned how to take a timed test she would have totally bombed. |
