Breastfeeding/opioids

If you had a c section, did you take opioids after and were you breastfeeding?

Internet is a hard no on this being safe, but I feel like I was given OxyContin after my last c section and definitely felt like I needed it for pain even though I didn’t love the idea.

Worried about effects on the baby.

I’ve been given oxy in sections, as well as norco. The effects on baby are addiction which oxy is definitely more prone to, so if you are too I wouldn’t take that one.

I was given meds while in the hospital. I took them the first day then stopped taking them. My son was groggy and would fall asleep while nursing. Long term, no issues but it did make starting to breastfeed hard.

If I had another c section I think I'd try to avoid them but that's also a personal choice because of how opoids affect me cognitively, I just can't think clearly (this happened after other surgeries too).

I took it and the doctors said it’s safe for breastfeeding. They are pretty cautious about stuff so I don’t think they’d say that if it wasn’t true.

I never took them. Those big Advil are great.

I took Vicodin, but this was 10 years ago. No issues. DH was deployed, so I needed pain relief to be up and around to handle the house + baby.

I used Tylenol for pain.
