| We are considering taking the jump and trying out for a club team over the summer. With some good options to choose from, what team do parents recommend before middle school? We are mostly looking to develop a better understanding of the game including field vision. Willing to drive a little but not to Baltimore. Or is this heavily dependent on the year and coaching? |
| M&D DC or Pride |
| Every grad year is going to be different, but MDU has outstanding teams pre-HS. Might be out far from DC though. |
|
M&D DC only has 1 good team - the 29s - and that is where all of their effort goes.
BLC and Rebels are the best youth in the MoCo area right now. |
| Go to Heros or the real M&D. Dont mess around with the DC clubs. If you are serious about lax, you will do this. BTW, its fine if you are not serious but just make sure your expectations match. |
BLC Blue pretty clearly competes at that level through 8th grade at least. Tough team to make though. |
|
Depends on where you live.
Would do Pride if in NoVA. Reach for M&D, Hero's or Sky Walkers if across the bridge. M&D DC unproven. |
BLC is a good option. Rebels is ok in a real pinch, but they have to combined ages in some years. I would avoid the possibility of combined age groups if at all possible. |
1000% |
| Where are you located? How far are you willing to drive? |
| Located in NoVA and willing to drive some but don't want to spend life in a car. Hence my question about the development and approach of teams. If I'm going to drive I want a good experience overall and to make sure the kiddo is progressing. |
| Does your daughter have any friends currently playing club? Clubs vary so much from year to year depending on where the talent for that year is concentrated. Pride is probably the best option in northern Va. not many options to choose from. Look and see what true programs exist in your area for your daughter’s grad year as well. BLC has been mentioned, but it is hard to get to from northern Va. if you do NGLL in the spring, that will be 2x a week practice |
| Clubs in nova have a hard time truly developing kids. They don’t do a lot of teaching. I would suggest playing club and then finding a high school or college playing to do some training with her. |
| For that age, BLC is the best in the area. It only goes through 8th grade, but it is easily the top DC area club for 3rd-8th. |
| Pride is a sinking ship. Younger teams have been struggling. Stars is a hot mess. Go north and cross the river |
