| I have what looks like some type of white growth (hard to tell the texture, but nothing oozing or shiny, more nondescript) in the fold of my inner labia, on one side (the labia there is bifurcated, so it has a fold), and it seems to shrink/retreat, or like now, with my period about to start, get a bit larger. The area is a bit itchy, too. I'm sensitive down there, and so if I can get rid of this on my own I'd rather, than have the doctor examine. I am worried what it might be, though. I have no other symptoms that might be troubling, such as pressure, swelling. Has anyone had this type of "growth", too, and if so, what worked for you to treat it? Thanks in advance ... |
| Sounds like a wart to me. Maybe Google HPV. Certainly see your doctor ASAP. Don't wait until it goes away and is harder to diagnose; he needs to see it. |
| It sounds like it could be a cyst, OP. I've gotten them from either friction against tight clothing (tight jeans, etc.) esp. in hot weather or when I was heavier, or from changing laundry detergent (esp. if it's itchy). I agree that you should probably get checked, but if you want to do home care for a couple of days over the long weekend, try avoiding tight clothes and keep dry and loose down there. Use cortisone cream, and also warm compresses or a heating pad to see if it comes to a head. It doesn't sound like HPV to me, actually. |
| It was herpes for me! Get it looked at now! |
| OP here, thanks for the comments, everyone .... I have tried to get info online, and HPV was one thing that came to mind. But from what I've read and photo examples, I don't have the type of genital warts described, and neither does DH. Also, examples of yeast infections also don't appear to match. It seems to be (I hope) a very localized occurrence .. I've had this for some time (with the retreating/shrinking, then slight increase in size happening). I know ... would be best to see a doctor ... |

Does it sorta look like toilet paper residue - for lack of a better description?
Another thought - could it be leftover eggwhite CM that sorta got smeared around? If there is no odor and no itching than it is probably just a mix of vaginal secretions and bacteria. Not all bacteria is bad. In fact, it could've been your vagina doing a "self cleaning". |
|
Hi PP (OP again) ... That's an interesting description, and I'd have to say yes, kind of what you describe. But, just a small amount of such residue, still enough that I can see it, though. Is this something you've had as well?
I'd not thought that it might be some type of self-cleaning product ... I would of course love if it was innocuous. There is a bit of itchiness sometimes, but not always, and I don't detect any type of odor... |
| ... one detail to clarify, though, is that it's not near near the vaginal opening (being in the fold region of the inner labia), so if there were a cleaning type occurrence, I'm surprised it is higher up there. But again, interesting idea... |

22:28 poster here
I think we might indeed be talking about the same thing. You sorta have pull the labia to the side(s) to see it. It's sorta in the nook and crannies of the labia? (sorry TMI). I called the advice nurse a long long time ago about it. She couldn't really tell without seeing it, but she thought it was just natural vaginal discharge (like I said, the vagina does clean itself out naturally) which is made up of skin cells, oil, sweat, and even leftover urine. It can vary depending on where you are in the menstrual cycle. I ended up leaving alone and still do. In fact, when I wiped it away it actually made me itch. But since there is no odor and it really doesn't bother me I never went in to follow up on it. |

Wow, that's very interesting, PP ... Yes, indeed as you describe, I have to pull the labia to the side, and there it is (excellent description you gave!)! It startled me and made me really nervous when I first saw it (maybe last year). Not knowing how long it had been there, what it is, thinking it is this or that, hoping it won't cause more trouble ...
What you describe sounds like it could truly be some type of "mixture" ... And, now that you mention all that, it also makes sense that being in a nook/cranny area like that, a fold region, it would be a more hospitable "environment" for something to "grow" ... But, within reason! So, that's why I was/am concerned if it would keep expanding. Seems, luckily, it hasn't exceeded a certain "size" and will shrink again ... I'm really relieved to read that someone can relate to this ... and it's giving me an excuse to not consult a doctor (yay!) I know, we aren't supposed to always rely solely on self-diagnosis, etc. But, I truly am comforted, and enlightened, to know more and learn I am not alone. Thanks so much, PP. |

Forget the white stuff, you have a bump on your inner labia. That says doctors visit to me. It could be any number of things and it's not something to ignore. If it was just a white bacterial discharge that would be one thing, but the accompanying bump is worrisome. Much better to go to the doc and have it be nothing than not go and have it be something.
I have gotten cysts in my outer labia many times, but those are generally just very painful and usually red, nothing like what you're talking about. Make an appointment. |
| Hi PP, I did Google about cysts, and I have to say that that doesn't seem to be what I have ... It is true I can't know for sure what might be below the white "residue," but from what I have read about cysts, they would be quite obvious, often red, as you say, and painful. Luckily, I don't have pain and nothing protruding etc. But I appreciate your sense of urgency, and it is definitely true to have a doctor examine. (Unfortunately, I am seeking a good OB/Gyn now, and don't even have a regular physician I like ... so, that is step one.) |
22:58 poster here (again). The white residue can be clumpy which may make it seem like its bumpy. But cysts and bumpy residue are different - especially if there is no pain, swelling, redness, etc. OP - I've really started to know my body better in the past couple of years so I can rest assured of what is normal and what might be a red flag. If we are indeed talking about the same thing, I really wouldn't worry. Take care

Hi again PP from 22:58 ... I agree, that it might seem clumpy (like many little bumps, but not really even bumps), and that's why I don't believe they are cysts of some sort.
I'm so glad you popped on here to share your personal experience, because it really does seem to match what I'm going through (and again, thank you to everyone else who also took the time to comment!) Best wishes, to you too ... |
