I pay too much in car insurance. Only drive about 5k a year, 10 year old vehicle. Live in a dense walkable area with good public transportation. It would save me hundreds a year to only have liability (and also be covered for uninsured drivers). At what point have you or would you get rid of comprehensive insurance and only retain liability?

| Would you replace your windshield if it cracked |
I don't know - my windshield has never been cracked in the 10 years I've owned it. I know it's been hit by rocks on the highway. I figure I'd save more just paying for it out of pocket. |

Your car might be worth quite a bit since it’s rarely driven.
Someone backed into my 12 year old car (that I sold for 14k later that year) and didn’t leave a note. There was quite a bit of damage and I’m glad insurance covered it. |
| We opted out of collision for a 10 year old car. My son totalled it after 6 weeks. Agent said statistically we made the right choice...but in our case obviously not. You just have to be ready to replace it on your own if something happens. |
| Windshield is $400. I would have dropped it long ago. |
| Comprehensive is much cheaper than collision so perhaps drop the collision only. Or, look into raising your deductible. |
| How much is your comprehensive? Can you raise the deductible and save much? Remember window glass us not cheap for side windows or rear window either. |
| Your 10 year old is likely to be worth $10k or more. If you are willing to risk that much start with a higher deductible of 2k. Risk 2k before you risk 10k. |
