Miami International Airport Hotel for Long Layover?

Anonymous
Has anyone attempted a day stay at the Miami International Airport Hotel during peak holiday travel time?

Our flight to Miami is super early (we wake up at 330 am local time and land around 9am) and then we have an international flight at around 730 pm that night. Hopefully we won’t have delays and will have a long layover.

Debating trying to get a room for the day at this hotel, but worry it will be a hassle.

I read it is on-site at the airport but that doesn’t mean it is convenient. Correct that going to this hotel (versus trying for a lounge or just camping out near the gate) would mean going through security a second time?

Debating whether it is a brilliant idea or a disastrous one. Thoughts?

Yes the hotel is landside, so you would have to clear security again. Plus it’s a total dump, check the reviews. There is no easy way to pass that much time at MIA I’m afraid. Try to get a better itinerary.

The hotel restaurant is a good place to kill several hours. But yes, you would have to clear security again.

Check out lounges at the airport. Maybe one has sleep rooms and you can buy a day pass.

I had a couple of long layovers there years ago and remember it as an easy place to spend several hours. Personally I’d stay in the airport.

I don’t see how this would work since the check in time would be about the time you have to head back to the airport anyway.

We’ve stayed at that hotel and it was perfectly fine but our room at least didn’t have a window. I’d spend the money on a day pass to a lounge

Uber to the beach and get a cabana for the day.

That itinerary sounds awful. I'd put the money into changing it instead of a dayroom at a hotel.

That is actually a fantastic idea.

Or use resortpass.com to get pool/resort access at a nearby hotel.

If you have Priority Pass, the Turkish Airlines lounge is nice.

Thanks for the input! Now looking at lounges. DH travels a lot for work and can access, though I am a bit of a noob. Appreciate the tip on the Turkish Airlines lounge and didn’t know sleep rooms at lounges were a thing. Can anyone here step through how lounge access works? I think DH has Priority Pass (will confirm). Not sure how helpful that is when we are four?

Depending on status, priority passes can get you 1-2 guests typically, although you can usually pay for additional guests.

Many hotels near airport have "day use" rates for just these sort of things. This allows you to get a room from say 10am until 5pm.

We did this once and having a hotel room to nap and shower was huge.
