NYC Girls Schools - all similar amount of homework?

Anonymous
Between Chapin, Spence, Nightingale, Brearley, Marymount, Sacred Heart, Hewitt, and any other similar school, is the amount of homework in middle and high school comparable? Not asking about difficulty or level, just expected number of hours.

My Chapin HS student has a ton of homework. I assume they are all the same.

Also interested in this. Does Brearley have considerably more homework than the others??

Can't speak for others, but my Brearley HS student is up all hours. I doubt she's an outlier.

Are you happy with Brearley overall?

Absolutely! It may not be for everyone, but it was a good match for DD. She reinforces the stereotype - nerdy, curious, very serious about school. She feeds off the pressure and the work.

As a parent, I wish she were getting more sleep, but I'm glad she's thriving. And she is very happy there...even when the stress bubbles over, which of course happens from time to time. It's worth noting that she entered in HS, so we had a clear sense of the kind of student she was and could assess whether it would be a good fit. And we've found the community to be welcoming, as a family coming in later.

There are some significant leadership changes afoot, as the longtime school head is retiring. But everyone seems excited and optimistic about the incoming head. This is all public info you can find on the website.

Brearley and Chapin are the most rigorous. Spence second. After that, eh.
