Cricket is great!

Carus publishing has a whole range of magazines for different age ranges/interests but Cricket is probably the best and I wouldn’t worry about it being listed as 9-14. Also if you get a subscription and decide you’d like to try a different magazine you can call them up and switch.

Note they don’t sell ads so subscriptions can be seem a little pricey but if you poke around there are usually coupon codes available.

My eight year old gets Spider (the 6-9 version of Cricket) and Highlights, and reads both immediately when she gets them.

The weak junior is AWESOME. And an 8 year old should be able to read it fine
