Will USA Swimming add 50s of stroke to Sectionals, Futures, and Nationals?

We already have them at our short course champ meet (for MD LSC). Will they add them for additional champ meets given the push to add 50s of stroke events to 2028 Olympics?

I think that is the strategy, and it is also supported by the presence of 50’s in scm championships. For people who only watch swim every four years at the Olympics, it’s much more entertaining to watch a 50 fly than a 200 back or 200 breast. I personally love watching distance events, but I know that it’s a snooze for most viewers.

I haven’t heard anything confirmed but with World Aquatics adding SCM and LCM 50s to their champs, I’d imagine USA swimming will follow at some point? But not sure how many pyramid level meets they would add them to? Maybe in 2026 since it’s too late to add for 2025.

World aquatics championships have had scm 50’s in each stroke since 1999.

PP. Oops, sorry I misread your post, you probably already knew that about scm worlds. It seems like many lsc champs are adding on, but not necessarily the other selective age group meets run by clubs. Our lsc champs has the 50’s for 13/14, but the more selective meet that occurs a month later, does not. Probably because of what other PP’s have said about making the timeline too long. Our lsc champs is adding an afternoon distance session to accommodate the timeline.

I don't know the short events are too much talk, they spend more time introducing the swimmers than swimming. Though, I like the idea of having them over other long events, just because I don't want to sit at long meets as a parent.

Does anyone in the swim world care about viewership? It doesn't seem like they do. I think most swimmers are perfectly happy to be supported by their family forever, and the thought of having to make money has never been in their swim cap.

Our LSC’s SC(Y) Age Group Champs meet is already 3.5 days. That is plenty long.

Guess you could remove B Finals to make room for more 50s.

I think it’s more likely that a true IMX wave takes over. 600IM, 400 fly, 400 back, 300 Breast are coming soon.
