Autistic Student Missing From Chisholm/Tyler

Anonymous
Did anyone see on the news that a student with autism was missing from the school one day this week.

The principal released a statement on Monday evening but didn’t thoroughly explain explain.

Based on the news report, cameras are under repair. That is a major concern. How long are they under repair and when would the community be notified.

Also, the mom said her son was missing for 15-20 minutes. That’s is OUTRAGEOUS! And they said the principal offered her another school.
Are you freaking kidding me? You lose my autistic child and offer me somewhere else to go. What happened here? How was this able to take place and who was responsible? Was anyone penalized?

Does the sped coordinator there still have initials DD?

The classes are over enrolled and understaffed. It’s a tragedy- but it’s what is going to happen when you push sped teaching beyond capacity.

The school system is getting worse and worse.

Central said they had no plans to open more classes.

Opening more classes=more money. Call up your council member and ask them to introduce a bill to raise taxes (even further) to pay for it.

Who will be paying for the lawsuits when the district gets sued?

I am a teacher in one of these types of classrooms (CES). The district would rather be sued for some reason. We have been telling them it’s unsafe but they don’t care. Some parents also don’t get it. It’s seems like it’s only 8-14 kids but the cap is supposed to be 6-8. It is supposed to be a 1:2 ratio and yet sometimes it’s 1:4 or more.

Their children are often getting babysitting not a high quality education and sometimes not even babysitting (as this situation shows).

The problem is they were in gym with 5 adults in the room. It wasn’t due to being understaffed. It was due to lack of supervision.

The principal should be FIRED! When your child goes missing any thing could have happened. How could offering another school help BEFORE the student was found?

She is so awful. I don't know what grade the child was in, but based on my experience with the K-2 classroom, it was only a matter of time before a child was hurt.
