I’m a fan of the restaurant reviewer from the Wapo. I want to try the 6 restaurants on his list of 13DC classics that l haven’t been to yet.
Anyone else thinking about places to eat or recipes to try for 2025?

That looks fun!

I really want to try Dogon, La’Shukran, and Minetta. All opened within the past month or so.

I didn't think Minibar was really worth it. I had more fun at Pineapple and Pearls at a similar price point.

OP, I hadn’t seen, so thanks for sharing. Fun list! Sad reminder of Komi, though, which I adored. Sniff.

I’ve heard this about Minibar from several people. We had the most amazing experience there, and I wonder if it all comes down to the server when you’re at a place with a tasting menu. I went with my siblings, two of whom are chefs and another owns a restaurant. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and generous. It was the best restaurant experience of my life.

Can you list the restaurants here for those of us who don't have access?

Maybe, I don't know how to explain it exactly but Minibar kind of felt like they expected us to just be awed the whole time whereas Pineapple and Pearls engaged diners, asked us to guess things or talked about history and felt more welcoming. I also felt like the food at Minibar just felt gimmicky at times and I somewhat felt like they were pushing the upsold alcohol way more there. These were both anniversary dinners.

I really like the other Jose Andres restaurants so I was a bit surprised.

Interesting. I liked P&P but don’t feel the need to do it again. (They also just lost a star, which is interesting.) I was curious about Minibar but haven’t made plans to go yet.

Thanks for posting, this is a great topic, but I'm hitting paywall. Does WaPo have gift links? Or can you list these?
