Hello, does anyone please know if HOA approval is needed for “interior renovations work”? Making an offer on a house in Belmont CC and worried that HOA may be too strict about approvals even for interior work! Would appreciate any feedback!
The work does involve removing a wall in the kitchen and relocating a toilet in the bathroom. Thanks |
| Read the HOA documents, which will define the types of changes to properties which require architectural review and approval. That said, interior work which is invisible from the exterior would be very unlikely to be restricted in any way. |
Ok thank you |

Shouldn’t you ask the agent and offer with contingency of your approval of the HOA documents.
Or is that from decades past. |
Yep. In Virginia you are required to be provided the HOA docs and you can back out of the purchase based on those rules. I did it. |
It’s just difficult to ask about anything nowadays! So many competing offers on many properties, so I worry if I put any contingencies, especially HOA related, it would lower my chances even more! Crazy times!!!! |
In some jurisdictions it’s a requirement that you have a certain period to back out after receipt of HOA documents. In that case it’s not an ask, it’s a law. Talk to your agent. |
Wow good to know! Thanks |
