Post partum doula/night nurse recommendations

I'm preparing for our second, and would like to hire a night nurse/doula to help a few times over the first few weeks. We are in MD near DC. Suggestions? Particularly interested in a doula who does not push breastfeeding; per my previous experience, I will not prioritize this and feel that many doulas are very push on this issue.

Skip the doula and hire a full time baby nurse for a few weeks. You don’t need someone to take care of you, you need someone to take care of the baby while you take care of you. Most full time baby nurses charge around the same rate for 24 hours as night nurses do for overnight. It’s super common in NY and I would join a NY based mom Facebook group to find a suggestion and pay for a baby nurses travel if you can’t find one in your area.

Who is working 24 hrs/day for “a few weeks”?

This is literally an entire industry in the New York area. If baby nurses are stating an extended period of time they coordinate a day off every so often, but this is their career. They live with the family for weeks or in some cases months. I do think it’s less common outside of New York though.

I was lucky and had no issues with breastfeeding so I can’t speak to that exact situation. But Eliza and Stella were both so gentle and respectful of my parenting style that I could never imagine them pushing breastfeeding on anyone.
