Best resources for car buying research

I’m not a car person at all; current car is a 7 year old Subaru Forrester and we are looking to get a second car as the kids are getting older and busier. What sites do you all use for car research? I just want to get a handle on the current family car/midsize SUV options and what type of budget we should be thinking about.
