Prague - clothing for Jan/Feb?

Anonymous
Doing an extended work trip to Prague during these months and wondering what to bring. Are snow boots necessary, or just waterproof walking shoes/booties? What kind of coat? Not sure how cold or snowy it gets there. TIA.

You can look up average temps to see for yourself. Like many places these days, the weather can vary widely. But overall I'd say it's comparable to NYC in Jan/Feb -- it can get pretty cold, it can snow. I would have waterproof boots and a parka on hand and lots of layers.

Yes, I've already looked up temps, etc. Was just curious to hear from those who have actually been there at that time of year.

I think the comparison to NYC is valid- I've spent time in other central European cities in the winter where the temps seemed to hover around the freezing mark- so it could be 34 and rainy or 30 and snowing. I'd bring a warm coat and layers but for footwear you could probably get away with something like Blundstones. But it depends what you mean by "extended"- if you're going to be there most of the winter I'd bring proper snow boots. For a week or two I'd check the extended forecast right before you go and decide then. But you want something with good traction regardless as cobblestones get slippery.
