Samantha Irby overrated

Have heard great things about Samantha Irby books but then I read two ("Wow, no thank you" and "Quietly hostile") and am very disappointed. I'm wondering if I'm the only person who thinks she's very overrated and over hyped? Not very funny at all. Pages and pages of stupid lists that are not funny, 70+ pages of her doing episode by episode run down of sex and the city, 20+ pages of sex is fun but....repeated about 400X over. I can't be the only person thinking she's overrated. Anyone else feel this way too?

I think she’s pretty funny but maybe my expectations are lower than yours when I read her books. I’m looking for David Sedaris-type entertainment, not anything groundbreaking.

I think she's hilarious, but not everyone has the same sense of humor. Chalk it up as not being for you and move on.

I don't get it either op. Reading 300 plus pages for one small laugh didn't really pay off for me. I've tried a few of her books and honestly it seems like she had some word or page counts to meet and she was filling the pages with nonsense.

Well David Sedaris and even augusten burroughs is funnier than she is.

I think she is very funny. You can't compare Sedaris. Apples and oranges.

She's not even in the same arena as David Sedaris. How can you even compare the two?

ITA and was seriously surprised and disappointed at how bad it was.

I was listening on audiobook--and it's possible she is just the rare author who is a poor narrator of her own work? Didn't even make it halfway.

I LOVE her! I find her hilarious and honest and her audiobooks got me through difficult times. Do not care for David Sedaris.

I think sense of humor is personal and not everyone likes the same authors - I personally love her, and Quietly Hostile is one of the only books a stranger has ever seen me reading and commented on in public.
