NCAP Invite Livestream???

Anonymous
The meet announcement only says that a program will be available through Meet Mobile. This is our first time attending. Any chance there will be a livestream for family who can’t attend?

No, that was only during COVID that I recall.

Heads up too-- program is for a fee through Meet Mobile, not free.

It would be really easy for them to do a live stream and so nice for families whose kids are traveling from other states. Other sports regularly livestream games and tournaments. I’m sure families would pay for a subscription. How can we get PVS to look into this for championship meets?

Somebody talk to Machine about how to do it, they did it for Turkey Claus:

Reach out to them and offer to take point on cultivating sponsor relationships too fund the stream - I think they would be interested.

I don't think enough people would be willing to spend money on it. Some pools already have the camera set up, but I don't remember any streams from U-MD even during COVID, so you'd have to have/rent/buy all the stuff.

There are old livestreams from the NCI on YouTube from 2021 and 2022 so maybe it was a COVID thing, nothing from last year that I could find though.

Livestreams require an upload speed of 10 mbps, and some places can’t support that, especially if there are other devices using the same internet connection. Also, it’s not free, so it has to be supported by ads or the host has to pay for the service. LSC’s all got money from USA swimming during covid to support things like live steaming. After covid, the funding stopped and many lsc and clubs had reduced coffers due to reduced splash fees, and livestreaming was too expensive to continue.

Last year they charged to get into NCI- I think they make more charging for seats than live stream and that’s why they choose the former. Believe me they do not care if grandma can watch in another state- they’re looking to generate as much revenue as possible

They also have a hard time filling timer positions. The more people in the building, the more potential volunteers they have.

This. I’m so glad that Marymount University’s swimmers are timing finals on Saturday and Sunday because there is normally so much teeth pulling to find timers at finals. At least for prelims they have spots assigned to each team so that it’s on that team to fill their timer spot.

I believe this year they aren’t opening the spectator section until volunteer positions are all filled.

Yes, they did it 3 yrs ago

Teams are no longer doing this. it is probably too expensive. I want to say machine tried to do it and charge last year, but there were technical difficulties and they ended up having to refund money.

Freedom center is the only pool I know of that still does livestreams. OCCS hosted meets. The quality is great! Free too!

NCI is charging to get in. $5/session
