Food for cancer patient post-surgery

Anonymous
My friend’s DH just had his initial surgery to remove cancer before he begins chemotherapy and radiation. It’s been a few years since I walked this path with family and then friends and I don’t remember those early days or where people are with appetite and food needs. The family is set for meals but I want to make sure they have healthy, interesting things to eat the rest of the time. Is there anything that I should avoid or that would be especially welcome in a busy house with a recovering patient who has a long journey ahead?

This time of year I always have a pomegranate open and have lots of those leafy oranges, but I’m wondering if fruit (with other stuff) is unwelcome. We are Asian (which is why fruit) and they are Spanish and South American, so I want to make sure there aren’t any cultural things I’m missing.

Good fresh fruit is always nice. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your kind gesture.

I'm about to start chemo and you are very thoughtful. My kids would devour fresh fruit being brought over. So even if I didn't need it, I am sure it'll be appreciated.

When people are low, the gestures of kindness mean a lot. Don't over think it, just follow through.

Thank you for the nudge- my impulse is always to overthink these things. I will be thinking of you and your kids and wish I could bring them treats, too. -OP
