Coaches at big teams

Silly question but… for those with swimmers on bigger teams, 6-8 swimmers per lane, do the coaches know each kid’s name?

My kid likes practices and coaches are great but seems discouraged that coach still doesn’t know kids by name. We are new to winter swim this year. Wondering if this is common for big teams…

Um I go to that coaches’ supervisor ASAP!

It has been 3 month since most programs started so every coach should at a minumum know all of their swimmers names by now.

6-8 per lane and how many coaches and lanes?

It depends on the coach, some yes, some no. 6-10 is normal with the younger kids.

They absolutely know their names

if they don't at this point in the year, you're on the wrong team. Unacceptable

I coach 120 kids at different times at my pool, I also coach a 30 person high school team and a 100 person summer team…. I know everyone’s name. After a few weeks it should be known.

For winter/club swim, the coaches absolutely know all the kids names. We’re at a bigger club.

Sorry that you are having this experience. We were at a large club before, and the 3 coaches assigned to my kids’ age groups (7-8 and 9-10) knew their names and every other kids’ names from the first week. The head coach did not. Our current club is smaller (120 swimmers) and all the coaches know every kid’s name, whether they coach their age group or not. How many coaches are assigned to your child’s group? And how many kids are in the group?

The main coach should absolutely know the kid's name within the first week. I'd give a pass to some of the secondary coaches who float from practice group to another.

It is definitely unacceptable. We swim for a big Club. Not only does the coach know my kid well, he writes up individual workouts for him (and others) when we are out of town, etc.

name the club, OP!

There is one group at our former club that only practiced once a week. There were a lot of kids in the group. And they rotated coaches to whoever was available. I’m guessing none of those coaches knew any of those kids names.
