| I'm 6 weeks pregnant--actually just starting to show, though maybe only I notice--and have a haircut appointment at 1 pm today. I'm thinking about asking for a very short bob, largely because I know my hair will be growing very fast over the next 7 months, and I figure there's a nice long period of time to grow it out. But I'm not that skinny even pre-pregnancy (5'4", 135 pre-pregnant), and I've always felt that cute short hairstyles look best on skinny women. Anyone want to weigh in? |
| First of all, you don't sound pudgy to me. You sound normal and just right. A short bob sounds classic and low maintenance and you will appreciate it after the baby comes. I also think pixies rock on pregnant women. Think Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. |
| On my way to the salon & glad I checked in. Short it is!!! |
| Ditto that you do not sound pudgy. I waited until I lost my baby weight to cut my hair b/c I had the same weirdness about it, and man I wish I didn't. It would have been awesome to have short hair the whole time. And looking back on it I think it would have looked cute, even with my 45 lbs of baby weight. All I was doing with the long hair was sticking it in a messy ponytail anyway. GO FOR IT! |

I caution to try super new things with your hair while pregnant. I was so emotional that if I didn't like it, it would have upset me for awhile, though, I am very attached to my hair and it doesn't grow fast.
That being said you are NOT pudgy!!! |

You may get bloated in the face/neck as you progress. A bob cut will only make that look worse.
And at 5'4 the ideal weight is 120lbs not 135. How about layering it to give it body - like a contemporary Jen Anniston look? |
Wow...but that's ignoring body type...which lends about 10lbs either way....and she is in no way overweight. Overweight doesn't start until 145 at 5'4. |
| It's primarily about your face shape and type of hair that you have that are the main determining factors as to how long or short your hair can be. Your weight really doesn't matter. |
Tori, please stop posting. |

I don't like short hair on MYSELF when pregnant. I'm tall - 5'10" - and normally about 140-145/size 6, but I always gain so much weight when I'm pregnant (too much, I freely admit) that I feel like I need some hair to balance me out. I remember in one of my pregnancies I cut my hair short and I was in the restroom at work and happened to glance in then full length mirror, and I thought, "OMG, why is my head SO small?!" Obviously my head didn't shrink but the rest of me was so huge I looked disproportionate.
Howeve, you don't sound pudgy, and it also depends on your hair type and face shape. It's just not a good look on me. |

OP here--thanks for all the advice. On my body type, I think that 135 is a bit pudgy, although my face is somewhat narrow & with prominent cheekbones. However, I got the short bob and am really delighted. My husband thinks it's the sexiest thing ever.
I do think that as the pregnancy progresses I'll grow it out more. The lucky thing is that my hair grows really fast when I'm pregnant, so when I need it longer it won't be that bad a wait. Again, I really do appreciate the advice given by everyone on hair length & pregnancy! |
| yay for the bob! Also, long shapeless lanky hair does no one any favors, regardless of body type. A short bob with bounce and body might actually balance out a fuller finger instead hair that just hangs. |
| Please do something other than a bob, especially if your hair is blond. That is all I see. Go check out those great hairstyle magazines for ideas and take it to your stylist to discuss. |

I hate bobs and when I had one, it was definitely the highest maintenance haircut i have ever had. It was always messy and would look asymmetrical or frizzy unless I spent a lot of time straightening out any waves. Also it got greasy quickly.
That said if you have stick straight hair and can just air dry it and it will be all nice and even, a bob is cute. Otherwise I do not recommend. |
