Which is what they try to do, which is how they come up with the worst of all possible worlds.

OP to answer your question, you pay $$$ for private with a calendar you like. They have smaller constituencies to please in private.

Yes! i find it utterly ridiculous that we are starting the school year on August 19 and ending on June 11. And next year is worse!

+1 next school year is going to be a disgusting slog. I was already looking at it. Lots of mid week days off, lots of teacher work days not aligned with student holidays. Might as well have year round school at this point, at least then we’d cut down on the “summer slide” for at risk students.

The only good thing is the January 29 through Feb 1 long weekend that doesn’t align with any holidays. They really messed up the distribution of PW to close off all those hanging mid-week holidays in Sept/Oct/Nov.

Moon and Dunne have both acknowledged that the 2025-26 calendar needs to be fixed.

I would bet that there are many families that just don’t come back after this five day weekend. Why would anyone send their ES child those last weeks if they did not need the childcare?

Wish the 1/29 teacher workday could be moved to 1/21. I really do not want to be in the DC area on 1/20 for obvious reasons.

The Eid holidays change based on the lunar sightings. Don’t count on having that Wednesday off. March 20th is also likely to change.
