The woman’s been in her position since 1991. Yes she’s done some great work but nobody lives forever. I’ve called her office several times and asked if she has a succession plan and they all seem dumbfounded. One staffer did kind of giggle and say yeah I’ve been thinking that as well.
What type of person could primary her? I’m almost considering trying to do an AOC type takeover but I’m no young person myself I’m 60 I guess compared to her almost 90 years old. I’m so sick of these old farts in Congress. Anyone know of someone who might run? |
I just hope it's someone sane and not a progressive nutter. Whoever it is needs to be dedicated to constituent services, which is a huge part of that job. |
It's a pretend Congressman position with no vote. More or less a glorified Leg Affairs staffer. I'm not really concerned. |
There is no succession plan. Her plan is to die in office. |
Many have tried but no one can beat her. She will be like Dianne Feinstein. |
It would be a great way to get Murial out of the wilson building! |
Trayon White! |
I literally can’t imagine her dying. And for what it’s worth I don’t think she has done great work. As a non-voting member, her top priority should be constituent support, and in 27 years of living in the city I have seen her exactly. And that was in 1993 when she spoke at a rally at Georgetown when I was a student. |
She truly is a terrible representative. People are so used to low expectations that they don’t know any better. It’s not just the lack of any constituent service. It’s also the fact that she has committee assignments and has a vote in committee and she doesn’t even use whatever power she does have to promote legislation that support her constituents. |
Eleanor is THE reason DC doesn’t have a vote in congress.
Gingrich offered her a compromise in the 90’s, where if the city got rid of its handgun ban, DC would get a vote in congress and Utah would get an additional seat. She refused, because it was more important to her to deprive law abiding people in DC of their Constitutional right to own a gun than it was to have a vote in congress. Then a decade later the Heller decision gave DC residents their second amendment rights, and DC still doesn’t have a vote. All because of Eleanor. |
OP here. When I called her office and asked about public events I was told none scheduled. Im going to read up on her work but would love to run against her. But alas I’m not connected, no law degree and I’m not independently wealthy. But if I were interested, how would that work? |
Why would Utah be eligible for another seat? Glad she didn’t take Newt’s “deal.” |
DC handgun ban is now unconstitutional and Utah got extra seat anyway through reapportionment. So these things happened anyway. What didn’t happen was DC getting a vote. Classic cut off nose to spite face moment. |
I have never voted for her due to her weakness I defending our interests and would happily vote for OP |
I suspect it will be passed down in the will. |
