My in laws live near Raleigh. We generally avoid them but my son is now old enough to want to visit his cousins. Are there any fun kid friendly resorts or vacation spots in or close to Raleigh that we could at least make a visit a vacation, like when they come here and we visit DC? |
So, not so many resorts but lots of places in Raleigh and nearby to have fun with kids.
In good weather: Pullen Park. In all weather: NC Museum of Life and Science. Both can easily occupy a kid for a whole day. Farther away is the NC Zoo. |
Duke Lemur Center is also fun with kids. I think you still need to make a reservation in advance for the walking tour.
Check out Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club if you don't mind staying in Durham. |
How old is your son? You may enjoy Fearington Inn which is about 45 minutes from Raleigh. There’s a farm with cows and a nice outdoor pool and bikes to borrow. And it’s beautiful and the food is great. If he’s under about 10 I’d think it would be enough to entertain him. |
My kids love Marbles. |
You could go check out Chapel Hill or Duke campuses depending on how far you're willing to drive. |
He’s 4 and I have a 1 year old. But he’s big info farm life so this could be a good option! |
There’s a special tour for younger kids at the Duke Lemur Center, which you all might enjoy. They do a great job, and there are lots of ways for a younger child to engage and get excited before the trip. https://lemur.duke.edu/ By the way, this is connected to Wild Kratts, which the one educational show my kids loved at age 4. It’s fun stuff! https://lemur.duke.edu/zoboo/ |
