Any help reading tea leaves, or is there literally nothing there?
My DC just got an email from the admissions office where DC applied ED. The first paragraph of the email gives a specific date and time this week when the ED decision will be available on the portal. The second paragraph says: We advise you to log onto your portal before decision release to be sure your credentials work. It seems nice that the college let us know a specific time on Friday night, but the second paragraph---urging us to make sure our login works before the release time--- seems like something the college would send only to students who will be admitted, so they can be sure to get the good news as soon as possible. Seems like it would be a little clueless to urge kids who are going to get rejected to send time now checking their portal password now so that they can then get bad news asap. My spouse thinks I'm overreading things, and it's just trying to save everyone from frustration if they forgot their portal password. But telling someone to put time into checking the password before the release time seems like something one would say to someone who will be getting good news. Thoughts? |
| I think you are overriding. Pretty sure I remember most schools send to everyone so they don't have a bunch of panicked emails and calls to admissions when people can't get into the portal because they never set it up. |
| Delusional. |
No it’s everyone. Form letter. They don’t want to be inundated with emails and calls about problems log him in. My kid got something similar last year and was deferred (then rejected). Most schools do this now and again for RD. |
Yes, this is the right answer. But good luck, OP! |
| Delusional |
| Everyone gets these. Sorry. Good luck to you kid! |
| What school? |
| It’s a form letter, most if not all send proactively. Good luck though, hope you have happy news coming soon! |
This is correct. It’s a form letter. They want all to login to head off any issues so no calls or emails. Nothing to do with outcome, they’d still want to prevent those calls and emails too. |
No more clueless than sending tons of recruitment mailings to kids who don't have a chance of getting in. |
| Everyone gets this. Please try to calm down. There is life after Thursday! |
+1. Especially since decisions are often released after COB. So, there is no one for kids to reach immediately if they can’t log in. I’m sure colleges don’t like giving bad news, but they want the release to go smoothly for everyone— even the Nos. Making them wait extra hours or days to get rejection does not make the rejection better. And some of these same Nos may be back in a year or two as transfers. No reason to treat them as unworthy of getting a timely decision. You are delusional. There are no tea leaves here. I hope your kid gets in because you very overinvested. There is supporting your kid. Then there is going down rabbit holes. |
| What school? |
| This is a standard email OP, it goes to everyone |
