Kid passed Round 1. Any one have insight into Round 2? structure? Important things to stress to kid?

Important for your kid to be well rested and wearing comfortable clothes. If possible keep them home from school and away from public places a few days before round 2 because they will not allow you to reschedule if your child is ill on the day of their apt. If not possible, have them wear an N95 mask when interacting with others a few days before.

Arrive early. But not too early. They get annoyed if you are late or even if you are just on time. But if you get there too early your kid may get impatient waiting so I’d get there 10 to 15 mins early.

Assure your kid that you’ll be there to pick them up and practice separating with them before the day of if they have trouble separating.

Round 2 is a black box—no one really knows what they are looking for or what they do—but they divide the kids into smaller groups and monitor their social interactions—how they respond to teachers, other kids. They do some kindergarten like activities like asking them to write their name and monitoring their pencil grip, puzzles, some play, etc. They already know the kid is smart enough because they made it to round 2 so they seem to be looking to see whether the kid is teachable—can they handle frustration, will they participate if asked a question, will they disturb the class, do they follow directions, are they excited to learn, etc.

LOL When younger dc went to second round playdate, he had had a temperature over 100 the night before. I sat on the rocking chair with him applying ice to his head to keep it down. He went. I didn't expect him to get in and he didn't. I always wonder if he hadn't been sick, if he would have done better. He probably got other kids sick, but you do what you have to do...

Thanks so much.

Does birth month matter, or does Hunter try to even it out across the year. My child is an October birthday. Feels like the January-March kids will come off much better than the fall birthday kids socially...

I wouldn’t worry about birth month. The two kids I know who got in last year had June and July birthdays.

I really don’t think it does, as many kids in my son’s grade have December birthdays.
