Uniform for grocery store employees

Should uniforms be required for employees of grocery stores? Like scrubs in health facilities?

Do you mean like, from a food safety perspective? No. They’re maybe required to provide aprons to the people preparing food, and head coverings, but idk if employees can be required to provide that themselves.

What grocery store doesn't have its employees wearing uniforms?

Every grocery store my kid worked at had their own version of a uniform. Current one requires jeans and black polo shirt.

Yes.

No. I worked at a grocery store and there was a vest and name tag. I wore them while training, and then only wore the name tag going forward.

This is an after-school job a 14 yr old can do. Or a part-time job a parent who wants some daytime hours while kids are at school can do. Or a full time job while the store is closed and the night shift is restocking.

The only people who need to wear something over their clothes are the meat and fish people, because of meat and fish juices. They wore white coats.

Is a company vest and name tag a uniform?

Yes.

It’s a good business idea.
If you are hippie store like Trader Joe you can get away with it.

I love the bright colored Wegman's polos. I think if you provide the uniform then you can require it. You cannot force a uniform that is a hardship for an employee to purchase.

No. I think a name tag is fine. Obviously there are some regulations when it comes to health codes, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Nope, because apparently the vest was optional.

Yes to name tag and a company's polo or shirt provided by company, e.g Trader Joe's. When shopping, have seen customers looking around at other shoppers' shirts to see if they are wearing a name tag to ask them a question.

Was at MOM's recently, don't recall workers in uniforms. I think they had name tags.

Absolutely. And masks, shoe coverings, and those yellow gowns they wear in hospitals before going into a room with a c diff patient before a customer is allowed anywhere near the produce or the pastry storage.
