California - week after Christmas

Where in a California would you recommend for the week after Christmas? The parents like nature/parks and the teenagers like shopping and cities.

San Francisco? Great hiking in Marin Headlands, other spots within an hour drive. San Diego also fabulous (and usually great xmas weather too).

+1 San Francisco. Union Square for all the big brands and the smaller neighborhoods for boutiques and other named brands. Hiking/nature in every direction from the city.

Haven’t all the big names left the city due to crime and homelessness?

Crime and homelessness are more present in certain areas (tenderloin, mission to an extent) but should not deter you from enjoying the city.
