Two Days in New Orleans

First time there and only have two days, what should we do? With my teenage son. Thanks!

WWII Museum is worth a visit.

Eat, lol.

I used to live there and my fave restaurant is Jacque IMO’s, but it is uptown and usually has a long wait. If you feel like burgers don’t miss Port of Call. People say dueling pianos at Pat O’s is touristy and it is, but we loved going anyway. Same thing with Cafe du Monde; yeah it is touristy but when I lived there I went at least once a month on Sunday morning for beignets and an iced cafe au lait. Irene’s has great Italian. When I go back I always make sure to get a reservation at Commander’s Palace and I order turtle soup.

A few years ago, I went here with my (then) 16 year old son. It was very interesting and I'm glad we went.

Have you ever done an airboat ride? Your son might like that.

Irene’s is so good! Italian with a NOLA twist.

Yes definitely want to try some local spots. He wants a shrimp Poboy and other New Orleans classics. We will be staying close to Tulane but want to go downtown as well.

I am from there - but haven't lived there in a long time. We took a big family trip there in 2023 and my nephew drug us to the WWII museum. We were there for 8 hours and could have stayed longer. Honestly, it's not my thing, but given that we had to be there, it was a really really good museum.
Other things we like to do:
River boat ride
Whitney plantation (not what you probably think of when you think of plantations- history from the perspective of enslaved people. Very powerful)
Jackson square
Music on Frenchman Street
Take the street car down St. Charles
Do a voodoo tour
Like, pp said, you can just spend your time eating. Yum!

Tulane DH suggests nearby campus for a quick bite. https://www.camelliagrillnola.com/ and seconds pp's suggestion: https://jacques-imos.com/

We did a ghost tour with my teenage son there he thought it was stupid. He did enjoy looking at the Mardi Gras floats.

A swamp boat tour - we used Cajun Encounters.

Camellia Grill was great, the streetcar very interesting, but it broke down while we were on it.

If the Cafe du Monde is packed, they do have other locations that are a quick in and out.

Yes, go to the Cafe du Monde at the city park. The sculpture garden there is very nice and there are lots of other things to do.

You can take the street car to get there and it is a scenic ride. The streetcar stops at the WWII museum along the way.

Also eat crawdad etouffee. Crawdads are good in NOLA.
