| Were the kids there really as cool then as portrayed in St Elmo’s Fire? |
| No, they were at least 5 yrs younger than those actors and worked a lot harder. |
|
In fairness, the St Elmo's kids had graduated from Georgetown, but were not current students.
|
They had JUST graduated. |
| But they shopped at places like Commander Salamander went dancing at the Fishmarket and hung out at 3rd addition. |
As a NOVA high schooler, I did all of those things too. I so miss the Georgetown of those days. NP |
| Georgetown was amazing in the 80's, god how I miss that time. Third edition was our after work cocktail hour and everyone from the office showed up for a drink. Times were so much simpler and more social, you know, before social media that was supposed to improve our social lives. Lol. |
Garrett's was also great. |
Oh wow I haven’t thought about Commander Salamander for decades! What a blast from the past. And Annie’s (Anastasia). |
I was a Smash girl myself. |
Those times were the best! Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan.... And agree social media is awful. |
| I was flown out to visit as part of a scholarship offering (athletic). I remember going to Saxby's and Georgetown Park Mall (which seemed massive). I remember how thrilling it was to go into the actual Commander Salamander instead of only seeing it cited in fashion magazines. It would be great to recapture the zeitgeist of Georgetown from those days. |
| OP here. I really appreciate all the reminiscing going on here, but no one has actually answered my question. Was the student body as cool as represented in that movie or not? |
The student body in the movie wasn't cool. Those of us who were there in real life at the time were much cooler. |
Not a lot of Rob Lowes among you I suspect! |
