Hot flashes - what do they feel like?

Anonymous
My doctor has told me I am in perimenopause based on hormones and my cycle plus age. He asked if I was experiencing hot flashes, adn I am not sure. Sometimes I feel hot, but there is often an explanation for it. I ask colleagues if it is hot in here, and some say yes, some no. Are hot flashes really obvious?

Hi OP, if you don't mind to share, did your doctor test certain hormone levels, and if so, could you mention what those tests were? I posted a thread on perimenopause, and have wondered, too, how this stage is classified, according to certain tests results and observations.
I don't believe I've experienced hot flashes, but sometimes I do feel some physical warmth (but could be due to my period, too ... depends on time of month).

I didn't realize I was having them at first because it was winter and I wore a turtleneck to bed and when I woke up from the hot flash, I just figured I had gotten too hot from the turtleneck. But once I realized what was going on I would say that for me they're very obvious. I feel a warm flush, might sweat a little, and I feel the need to take off any extra layers I can. But I think it depends on the severity. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't notice really mild hot flashes at first.
