Recently, I found this thread here that talks about the environment and setting of Rockville HS.
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1238549.page We've been zoned for the Rockville cluster since my son was in kindergarten and now, he is expected to start 6th grade at Earle B. Wood MS. Looking at the thread posts, it seems like parents of kids who are or formerly went to Wood MS and eventually went to Rockville have kids who have had negative experiences at the middle school. I don't know if it's because middle school is a difficult time or that Wood actually has a bad community, but I found some context that speculates around news articles that hurts the school's environment. I would like to know some parents whose kids went to Wood MS to share their personal experiences with their kid at the middle school. It would be great to help. |

I have a kid their who's in the 7th grade right now. It's not a terrible middle school, but yes, I would agree that Wood isn't a great middle school either. I would say it's right in the middle in terms of how I would rate it.
OP, one thing I would recommend is by the time your kid is in middle school next year I would suggest him to try and attend some clubs there. My son is in the school's Green Team club and he's already received about 30 SSL hours. It's a great club that gives a quick boost for SSL hours which is a graduation requirement (you need at least 75 hours). The theater program at the school is great too. If your son's interested in trying to do theater, he can have a chance to do some auditions for the school's theater plays. |
