Splitting, have lots of unused wedding gifts, best way to sell

Anonymous
After 9 years I am throwing in the towel. DH has ADD and possibly AS and I can't live like this any more. We were very lucky to recieve many wedding gifts from Crate & Barrel. Due in part to apartment living and to DH's poor social skills and desire to be isolated from people, we have never used our china or flatware. They no longer carry the items but they were popular patterns. Anyone have any ideas as to how to sell them to make a bit of money? Trying to scrape together funds for a new deposit. So sad to have closets crammed with stuff that held so much hope, that never made it out of the box. I almost cancelled the wedding but was talked into it by friends. This is not a good environment for my kids to grow up in. Time for a fresh start.

Sorry OP. Try eBay.

You could sell the china to Replacements dot com, I believe they will send someone out to give you a price for the batch. It would be less than what you might be able to get selling them directly yourself (because they will go on to sell them for a profit as individual pieces) but would save you some hassle.

I don't think Replacements would be that interested unless the china is old or valuable, though I am not certain of this. I get their mailings and they sell a lot of antique patterns or very expensive brands.

I think eBay or Craigslist is your best bet. Craigslist would have the advantage that you wouldn't have to wrap and ship. There are people who will broker your ebay sales for you so you don't have to deal with the hassle but they will take a cut.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

Replacements doesn't just deal in old/antique/valuable, I think they take anything, particularly what has been discontinued. However, they sell it on ebay, so I would try to sell it there myself first.

OP, I'm so sorry. I'd definitely try posting on craig's list. Or e-bay. It may be cathartic to sell these things, given your yen for a fresh start. Send us the link to them. Maybe somebody here will be interested! I personally love crate and barrel.

Maybe Etsy? Or try Apartment Therapy.

E-bay will get you more money than Craig's List. If you can't do it, find a friend/relative and they can post items for you.

OP, I'm so very sorry. If you feel like it, would you mind sharing your pattern names? We also have C&B glasses/dishes/flatware from that same era and I'm having trouble finding more.

If you'd rather not, E-bay or CL are the way to go. It depends on your tolerance for hassle and desire for max profit.

As for eBay versus Craigslist, china is heavy, so shipping costs are high, the risk of damage, too. I'd try to sell china through Craigslist. I think the comparison depends on what you are selling!

Yes OP post what you have...maybe one of us wants it.

Also, sorry you have to go through this... Good luck with your fresh start.

just FYI - I just bought a nice set of kate spade china on ebay - 8 chargers, plates, salad plates, cereal bowls, coffee cups and saucers all for about $200.
