| Hi everyone, I’m a parent of an 18-year-old college student who’s looking to make some extra money over winter break. My child is willing to take on any legal and safe job—whether it’s tutoring, babysitting, delivery work, or any odd jobs that come up. If you have any leads or suggestions, we’d really appreciate it! he would literally do Anything |

Anything? Well...
Seriously, when I was in college, I worked for a company RGIS. They did store inventories. Anything from grocery stores to hardware stores, clothing stores, etc. Reason was that they would hire a ton of folks around the holidays because of year end requirements. Pay was above minimum wage and I stayed pretty busy during my break. Only down side were the work hours - normally very early for the grocery stores or late at night after closing for the others. Did it with a few of my friends. |
| Target is always hiring stockers. My DC worked there summers and winters until this past year when they got an internship. |
|
Pet sitting for people going out of town would also be an option.
Can your kid hang Christmas lights? My brother and I one year got paid to help decorate for Christmas. Babysitting is an option but you might need some investment in a certification if you want to care for younger kids. If you have a local Facebook group or similar just put a post out and you might get some options. |
| What about Uber Eats or DoorDash? |
|
Costco is always looking for people over the holidays.
Interestingly, my nephew was hired there for a summer only after committing to work during Winter school break (understanding, this is was just an honor commitment...but he wanted the $$$ during break as well). |
| If you work in HS it's easier to go back to old job during winter break |
| Toy stores. Target/Kohls/etc. As long as you are willing to work early or late - you are good. |
| This was the olden days, but I spent my first winter break from college working at Foot Locker in the mall and loved it. Only time I ever did retail, but I had so much fun in the "mall culture." |
| I signed up with a temp agency when i was home on winter break and filled in answering phones etc for various folks who were out on leave for the holidays. |
It’s hard to get hired for non seasonal jobs these days. I can’t blame these companies. Who wants to train kids who will only be there for 2-3 months? |
Agree. My kid has a summer job (coffee shop) and she was one of the lucky few college kids to get hired. Most employees are there for more than just a summer or break. Even having worked there she can't work there over break-they don't need seasonal help. |
| I worked for a temp agency on breaks during college and my first couple summers teaching. It is awesome (or at least was then). Officy jobs, no commitment and decent money and gained a good amount of skills along the way. |
| How long is winter break? Seems annoying for anyone to hire someone for like three weeks, right? I would look for more side jobs. Helping with cutting grass, shoveling snow, fixing things, etc. Offer services on next door? Also, uber eats. |
