Does anyone have a recommendation of an swimming pool I could go to in the DC area? I have been experiencing really bad back aches and leg swelling during the 3rd trimester and feel that being weightless in the water will help ease the pressure. Unfortunately I don't belong to a gym that has a pool nor do I know of anyone who has a pool. |
I still haven't been myself but I found out that Sibley has a pool and they give aquarobics classes as well, during the day as well as in the evening. Just visit their website or call. Other options are the YMCA downtown or in Bethesda but you have to become a member and Sibley turns out cheaper. |
Believe it or not, there are some pretty nice DC public pools:
http://app.dpr.dc.gov/DPR/information/swimming_pools/swimming_pools.asp?type=2 Takoma Pool is new and a very nice facility. Turkey Thicket and Marie Reed are also fine. Water at all these places is generally warm (82 degrees). Entry is free for DC residents and non-residents pay $7 or you can buy a pass. |
You can also join the pool at Catholic University or Trinity College. |
There's a pool at Marymount (North Arlington, near chain bridge). |
Montgomery County has great indoor pools that non-residents can use for $7.50 per entry.

I kept meaning to go to the William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center at 635 N. Carolina Ave., SE (Eastern Market). The DC pools are free for residents. I've also taken aquatics classes in Arlington County. I'd recommend looking at the county pools to start with since they should be convenient to where you are and not too pricey. I'm going to the Y now and it's not cheap. |
I think you can pay to swim at the pool at the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights; also, you can buy a membership to the St Alban's pool (or even a 10-visit pass). |
I think the new Results gym downtown has a pool. Also, the JCC near Dupont Circle has one. |
