Purpose of 5th Grade Bball?

Is the purpose of 5th grade basketball to teach the game or to play to win? Our team has two coaches who play the same 5 players every game for the entire game because the want to win and build their "brand." Maybe they have visions of coaching in the NBA, meanwhile 8 players ride the bench every game, all game.

Is this a rec league? If so I’d say something to whoever runs the league.

Go somewhere else if your kid not playing. I will look for a team where my kid is one of the top players

It depends on what kind of team. Of AAU or county/select, the purpose is to win. If rec, development although that’s always limited given volunteer parent coaches.

This sound like an AAU team. FCYBL Select Team had only one official game thus far and Rec League haven't play it's first game.

13 kids to a team is a lot, even for an AAU team. Are the 8 players any good? Do they work hard in practices? Sounds like these coaches only care about winning and brought 8 additional players for cost saving purposes. What is the W-L record?
