My family from abroad is visiting for the holidays. They want to go to an American diner. What is the most authentic one in the area? |
Silver Diner is not authentic, but it plays the role well if they are looking for chrome and juke box and milkshake theatre.
|
Agree. Or Ted’s Bulletin, which is even in the burbs now. I took some German friends there and they were delighted— they Instagrammed the whole meal. |
I live in DC but would recommend Tastee Diner in Bethesda for this. |
Bob and Edith's |
Florida Avenue Grill |
100 times this. |
I visited in 2022, it's one of the only things that's the same since my first visit in 1989. The food was good, too. |
Ihop? |
Waffle House? |
Tastee Diner is the only one in this area. |
No no no no. Jimmy Ts or Tune Inn. |
Could maybe do the waffle house downtown |
Silver diner served me cold chicken noodle soup last time I went, though, which is an offense I cannot forgive. |
Definitely not Ted's (which is a fine restaurant, but not a diner).
Tastee's is a true diner. But for a similar authentic experience, also consider Market Lunch, Jimmy Ts, or Tune Inn. Market Lunch has really good food; the other two have mediocre food but great atmosphere. |
