Best authentic diner in DC area?

Anonymous
My family from abroad is visiting for the holidays. They want to go to an American diner. What is the most authentic one in the area?

Silver Diner is not authentic, but it plays the role well if they are looking for chrome and juke box and milkshake theatre.

Agree. Or Ted’s Bulletin, which is even in the burbs now. I took some German friends there and they were delighted— they Instagrammed the whole meal.

I visited in 2022, it's one of the only things that's the same since my first visit in 1989.

The food was good, too.

Silver diner served me cold chicken noodle soup last time I went, though, which is an offense I cannot forgive.

Definitely not Ted's (which is a fine restaurant, but not a diner).

Tastee's is a true diner.

But for a similar authentic experience, also consider Market Lunch, Jimmy Ts, or Tune Inn. Market Lunch has really good food; the other two have mediocre food but great atmosphere.
