Will some schools make a decision to add another class in K? If so, what is the magic cutoff number? Also, and I'm asking this b/c I have no prior public K experience, how are they able to get K teachers fast when they add a class?

My DD's Kindergarten class has 22 students.

As far as guidelines at our MCPS school the principal stated that to get additional staffing at K, all classes need to have more than 27 students. And even then I don't know if it is guaranteed.

Ashburton K - 24 kids.

13:41 Here. Ah, that makes sense now. My neighborhood school has 3 K classes with 27 each. Rumor is that a 4th class may be coming soon.

I doubt it would happen. My son is in 1st grade this year. At his orientation last year, the principal clearly stated as soon as school year begins, the teaching staff is locked and he can't add any more teachers, even if a whole bunch of kids move into the district in September. And with it being "this year" (aka "year of massive budget cuts"), I would not see how they would change that policy.

Of course, I have a friend in NC and at her child's school last year, they did add an additional class 3-4 weeks into the year for his grade (4th). Totally different state/district, of course.

My son's K class has 24 students. There are tons of unemployed teachers who would die to take a position at the last minute including me.

K- 18 students, though there are 6 K classes which is huge

My school did add a 2nd grade last year the first week of school..but they weren't able to hire an additional teacher. They used 2 resource teachers to cover the class and obviously reduced the resource coverage..
