no mideast peace with Hamas

Something tells me that if Israeli soldiers shot and killed 4 Hamas militants in the last two days for the peace talks, this community would be up in arms. But given that it was Hamas claiming responsibilities for killing 4 Israelis, including the mother and father to 6 kids, there isn't a peep.

I wish Netanyahu and Abbas much luck. Unfortunatley, Hamas will never cease their terror.

In an interview with AP Television News just before the Wednesday shooting, Gaza strongman Mahmoud Zahar indicated that more attacks could be expected. "Our resistance is continuous," he said. "We have to concentrate on the West Bank in order to achieve (its) liberation."

Earlier, in an address to Hamas members, Zahar said the movement would resist peace efforts and criticized the Palestinian president for joining the negotiations.

"Today marks the start of direct negotiations between someone who has no right to represent the Palestinian people and the brutal occupier, to provide a cover for Judaizing Jerusalem and stealing the land," Zahar said.

"The enemy of the Palestinian people is the Zionist enemy," Zahar said.

Zahar rejected the idea of compromise with Israel, saying that "liberating" all the land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River — a reference to Israel's destruction — is a moral and religious duty. He said Palestinians must not abandon armed resistance against Israeli occupation.

Agree completely. Hamas has no interest in peace with Israel and wont accept anything less than the complete destruction of the country. Hamas wont even recognize Israel's right to exist. Hopefully, Israel and Abbas coan come to some sort of terms but I dont hold out much hope.

Israel can't reasonably expect people (Hamas) to act like humans until Israel treats the Palestinians like humans. And if/when Israel ever can bring itself to do that, it needs to understand cultural change among the Palestinians will take generations. just look at other countries that have oppressed peopLe. Change doesn't happen overnight.

You are the peep. Do you think there are reporters who cover these things for you?

I think that everyone recognizes that this is an attempt to disrupt the peace process, and that it is condemned by most everyone except extremists. The Palestinian Authority has also condemned what happened and has arrested over 200 individuals in an attempt to find those who perpetrated the attack. It has started mass arrests. Hamas is weak in West Bank, so there is hope that some good can come of the peace process.

It is a shame that Hamas is even in power. I know that a lot of people did not like Fatah, but I think they represented the better hope for peace. Unfortunately we gave Fatah the heave ho and Hamas predictably was elected shortly afterward.

I understand that it is difficult to imagine reaching peace. But such reversals have happened. the Egypt-Israeli peace accord paid great dividends for Israel, only a few short years after an all-out war. Peace is possible.

But more importantly, Israel cannot survive without peace. No amount of defensive effort can make up for the fact that without peace, Jews are destined to become a minority within their own land. They need a Palestinian state as much as the Palestinians do.
