I keep getting injured!

Anonymous
I am 37 years old. I was doing barre and had pain in my lower back and then shoulders. I stopped and went to PT for a month and then was healed.
Now I am doing reformer pilates and wound up with sharp hip pain. A trip to PT revealed that I had hip bursitis and hip flexors strain.

Why do I keep getting injured? Am I getting older? bad form? something else?

Who is sending you to PT? Maybe you are doing too much too quickly.

How's your core? Try to add in a few minutes of planks a day.

Are you stretching before and after?

Your PT is the one who could answer your questions. Low back and shoulder pain, as well as bursitis, can all have many different causes.

Welcome to old age. I’m 52 and have worked out for decades. I have lots of sports related injuries. Currently a shoulder one from lifting. It sucks but I’m not going to stop working out.

lol 37 is not old age. Even teenagers injure themselves.

Poor form and doing too much before you are ready. I’m in my mid 60s and never get injured because I pay attention to how I move always and I work my way to the next level at a reasonable pace.

You don’t need to go to PT the first time you feel any pain. It’s normal for things to hurt as you start to use them more.

Age. You joints and connective tissue just stop complying with what your brain wants to do as you get older. You should think about doing something different.

That is about the age where I started getting injured. I think I had bad form for years that was fine when I was young, but becomes problematic as I got older. I thought it sucked then. Fast forward two decades and recovery for any injury is 6 months to a year. Welcome to old age!

You have had no injuries? No wrist sore, shoulder sore, knee sore?
