Submitting an extra letter to Sidwell

At Sidwell's open house, they said you can submit one extra letter of recommendation (in addition to math and English teacher recs) but there is no link for it on Ravenna. How have others submitted this extra letter?

Why not call the admissions office? They are friendly and responsive.

Yes, first I called. No one picked up. Then I posted. I know on DCUM you have to give the FULL story if you want to get an answer.

Email it to the admissions director of the division your child is applying to.

And like Dalton said in Road House, be nice.

How many times did you let it ring? Did you leave a voicemail? If yes, why not wait for a response? If not, why not? Did you email the admissions office? If not, why not? If yes, have they responded? If not, how long ago did you email? If yes, why are you asking here?

You seem a bit unhinged about this. I suggest you stop reading this thread if it upsets you so much.

Wowza. I’m not the OP but this seems like quite the overreaction for a relatively mundane inquiry. Why the intense cross-examination style interrogation?

Sidwell gets a lot of applicants and this is a really busy season. They don't have people waiting around to answer the phone because the entire admissions team (which frankly is only a handful of people) is busy with tours, events, application reviews, etc.

My advice is to have whomever is offering to give the other reference just email it to the admissions email directly. Or just send the email request asking how to handle this and give it some time for them to respond. You still have some time before applications are due so don't panic. Best of luck.

I was the first person to recommend contacting admissions and in NO way was it meant to be snarky - we always received replies when we emailed them with a question. And, as noted, they were friendly. It's also unlikely if you can't find it on Ravenna - then nobody here has the answer for you. (PS - I have not written since my first post - so Unhinged person is not me)

OP - you do have time to hear back - but if you don't hear back...

I'd send the letter in an email - I'd explain that you were told an extra letter was acceptable but couldn't determine how to do so in Ravenna. I'd ask for instruction on the formal process but state that in the meantime the letter is also attached. I'd cc the admission person in charge of division you are applying for, the head of admissions, and any other admissions person (including support staff) that you have had direct contact with during the process so far. (but I wouldn't include a "teacher interviewer" though)

But this only works if you have the letter in hand. If the person writing the letter wants to send it directly - then you might want to try harder to hear back from Sidwell. Or give the person who wrote the letter the same email addresses you would have used above.

Good luck
