Debating what to do. DH and I are off all week. We have 5th, 7th, and 9th graders. I sort of want to surprise them with a late dinner out followed by a movie marathon with desserts. I have fond memories of my parents letting me skip days like this. |
I’m exhausted and have off tomorrow, too. I think you have inspired me to sleep in. |
If them going to school meant I could be alone with DH for a few hours. Byeeeee! But, I would still take them out to dinner and dessert. |
I have three kids the same ages, and that sounds like so much fun. So many kids are skipping today and tomorrow—go for it!! My only hesitation in your shoes would be whether the 9th grader has tests. Mine has a summative and a lab tomorrow. |
No, we are not traveling and they all like school. |
+1 My high schoolers have tests this week. I would actually use the time to plan a really fun date day with DH while DCs were in school. |
Does anyone go to school anymore?
OP: my kid goes to school, unless she’s sick. We do plenty of fun things as a family over the weekend and during school breaks. |
I would seize the opportunity to do something ng fun with your Dh |
Why wouldn't you take a day off without your children? Martyr mommies are so annoying. |
If you are going to pull your kid out of school, do it on a regular day and NOT a holiday day, as those are the most fun days for kids. Often early release days, parties, foods, etc. on those days. I'd have been furious if pulled out of school on the day before a holiday. |
No, how sad. Let your kids go to school! You have time together the rest of the week. |
Enjoy your day off! They can have a movie night on Wednesday ![]() |

My 9th grader took care to ask her teachers whether there would be anything new taught tomorrow. There won't be, so she's staying home. Today she had a test in one of her AP classes - she doesn't want to miss anything.
What do your children want to do? |
I wouldn’t keep them out of school, because there’s a 5 day weekend right after… should be plenty of time to do fun things together then. But they also probably won’t miss much, unless the high schooler has a test.
Unless you are planning yo travel? Then you could leave a day early for your trip. |
