Club sports

Currently there are only 5 HS that have crew (rowing) as a club sport. If 2/3 of the HS had interest for crew, the sport could be MCPS sponsored. At least one of the teams has 100+ students. Anyone on here know why there isn't more interest at other MCP schools? How can crew be turned into a MCPS sponsored sport?

Same for other club sports. Is there a list of all club sport offerings by HS?

2/3? That would be about 17 HS. Are there enough qualified people to coach? You probably need at least one coach for a boys team and at least one for a girls team for each school, 34 adults to coach.

Is it lack of interest or has anyone even bothered to ask the other schools and their students? And then determine where they would practice and how they would get there?

If it was district sponsored, could each school get school bus? Carpool? Or take Metro bus or train depending on where water body is?

Those large crew teams are made up of kids from multiple schools.

Club sports often don’t utilize school grounds.

Crew is a sport for rich white kids. Most MCPS schools are not filled with rich white kids. There's your answer on why crew will never be a varsity sport.

Club sports are private, not mcps. Crew is through private groups but they welcome kids from other schools.

Lame comment. Anyone can join Blair crew. I reached out to them but we could not make it work.

They cannot practice in a lake. They travel.
