I’m looking for the most prestigious rigorous camps for public speaking or academics in the dc metro area. 4/5th grader. I’ve heard of Fairfax collegiate. Is it good? Wondering where kids who end up at Georgetown prep/sidwell or tj go?

We participate in Scouts. The entire program is about learning how to Lead and work with others. Great for socialization, being active outdoors, and learning how to lead. There are even merit badges dedicated to public speaking and communication.
There is not a summer camp that will help with entrance to TJ. No clue about the other schools on your list. |
A prestigious camp for a 4th grader? |
Many Sidwell kids go to sleep away camp or Calleva or similar -- a chance to do anything other than academics. |
Find a Leadership Training Program “LTP” |
Thanks for all the helpful responses!! |
As in a well regarded camp that has structure and a lot of kids from the private prep schools. Entrance to them or prep is not the idea here. Just exposure to that level of academics and environment. |
Any feedback on Fairfax collegiate ? |
I agree with Girl Scout camps, lots of great leadership opportunities there. My older daughter will be a counselor this year and my younger daughter will be an AIT. |
my older child has gone to several ffx collegiate camps with mixed results -- robotics was very poorly organized, their equipment was never charged etc. 3d printing this past summer it literally took 4 days for the instructor to explain how parents needed to register for a special program that would be the basis for the whole class -- lots of wasted time (we were the first session).
He loved filmmaking on the other hand. Friends had kids in math and writing workshops and they shockingly enjoyed as well. |
Check out Highest Speak for kids public speaking classes and private coaching. My son did their classes (he’s in 6th now) and greatly improved. He said they were also really fun. I think it’s in Fairfax. |
