Block schedule MS - how difficult would it be for a 6th grader to catch up if we took a week off? I see so many cheap flights for December and would like to take a vacation before Christmas since everything is so expensive during the 10 day break. Looking at flights for upcoming Thanksgiving break and looks like we should have planned much earlier. Right now I see $150 RT flights to some places we are interested in for first week of Dec.

It won’t be difficult to catch up, but omg mcps is so annoying with attendance letters. Ds missed 9 days, all due to virus / illnesses since start of school this year (all excused absences), and I got 2 letters with offer to reach out to counselor for “strategies to help bring my child to school”. Feel like sending response with suggestion to improve ventilation, but won’t do that.
Not sure if the 5 days you miss will trigger these, depends if any other days were missed. |
I wouldn't skip regular achool (meaning days that are not half-day time-wasters next to holidays, which i have no problem taking) for pure leisure that wasn't a very special opportunity or time with family. It's hard to expect teachers to help with any catching up ever, but doubly so under those circumstances.
People do this all the time, but teachers do not have to be accommodating. For example, the work will have to be made up upon return, won't be provided in advance.
Here is another thread about absentee letters 🙄https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1173799.page
